창세기 4:1-16

가인과 아벨

아담이 자기 아내 하와와 잠자리를 같이 했습니다. 그러자 하와가 임신을 하여 가인을 낳았습니다. 하와가 말했습니다. “여호와의 도우심으로 내가 남자 아이를 얻었다.”하와는 또 가인의 동생 아벨을 낳았습니다. 아벨은 양을치고, 가인은 농사를 지었습니다.

세월이 지난 뒤에 가인은 땅의 열매를 하나님께 제물로 바쳤습니다. 아벨은 처음 태어난 아기 양과 양의 기름을 바쳤습니다. 여호와께서는 아벨과 그의 제물은 받으셨으나, 가인과 그의 제물은 받지 않으셨습니다. 가인은 매우 화가 나서 안색이 변하였습니다.

여호와께서 가인에게 물으셨습니다. “네가 왜 화를 내느냐? 왜 안색이 변하느냐? 네가 좋은 마음을 품고 있다면 어찌 얼굴을 들지 못하겠느냐? 네가 좋은 마음을 품지 않으면 죄가 너를 지배하려 할 것이다. 죄는 너를 다스리고 싶어하지만, 너는 죄를 다스려야 한다.”

가인이 자기 동생 아벨에게 “들로 나가자”하고 말했습니다. 그들이 들에 나가 있을 때에 가인이 자기 동생 아벨을 쳐죽였습니다.

여호와께서 가인에게 말씀하셨습니다. “네 동생 아벨은 어디 있느냐?” 가인이 대답했습니다. “저는 모릅니다. 제가 동생을 지키는 사람입니까?” 여호와께서 말씀하셨습니다. “네가 무슨 일을 했느냐? 네 동생 아벨의 핏소리가 땅에서 나에게 호소하고 있다. 땅이 그 입을 벌려 네가 흘리게 한 네 동생의 피를 네 손에서 받아 마셨다. 그러므로 너는 이제 땅에서 저주를 받을 것이다. 네가 땅을 갈아 농사를 지어도 더 이상 땅은 너를 위해 열매를 맺지 않을 것이다. 너는 땅에서 떠돌 것이다.”

가인이 여호와께 말했습니다. “이 벌은 제게 너무 무겁습니다. 주께서 오늘 저를 땅에서 쫓아내셨습니다. 저는 이제 주를 만나 뵐 수도 없을 것입니다. 저는 땅에서 떠돌며 유랑할 것이고, 누구든지 저를 만나는 사람은 저를 죽이려고 할 것입니다.”

여호와께서 가인에게 말씀하셨습니다. “아니다. 누구든지 가인을 죽이는 사람은 일곱 배나 벌을 받을 것이다”라고 하시고, 여호와께서 가인에게 표시를 해주셔서, 가인이 누구를 만나든지 그 사람이 가인을 죽이지 못하게 하셨습니다. 가인은 여호와 앞을 떠나 에덴 동쪽 놋땅에서 살았습니다.

Cain and Abel

Genesis 4:1-16

Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, "With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man." Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.

Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. And Abel also brought an offering-fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it."

Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother s keeper?"

The LORD said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother s blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you.You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."

Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is more than I can bear. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."

But the LORD said to him, "Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. So Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
