창세기 22:1-14

아브라함과 이삭 그리고 숫양 한 마리
"하나님께서 아브라함을 시험하시다"

하나님께서 아브라함의 믿음을 시험하셨습니다. 하나님께서 “아브라함아” 하고 부르시자 아브라함이 “예, 제가 여기에 있습니다” 하고 대답했습니다.

여호와께서 말씀하셨습니다. “너는 사랑하는 아들 이삭을 데리고 모리아 땅으로 가거라. 내가 너에게 일러 주는 산에서 네 아들을 잡아, 태워 드리는 제물인 번제물로 바쳐라.”

아브라함은 아침 일찍 일어나 나귀에 안장을 얹었습니다. 아브라함은 태워 드리는 제사인 번제에 쓸 장작을 준비한 다음에 이삭과 두 종을 데리고 길을 떠났습니다. 그들은 하나님께서 일러 주신 곳으로 갔습니다.

이삭이 아브라함을 불렀습니다. “아버지!” 아브라함이 “왜 그러느냐?” 하고 대답했습니다. “불과 장작은 있는데, 번제로 바칠 양은 어디에 있습니까?” 하고 이삭이 물었습니다. “얘야, 하나님께서 번제로 바칠 양을 준비하실 것이다.” 아브라함이 대답했습니다. 아브라함과 그 아들은 함께 길을 걸었습니다.

그들은 하나님께서 일러 주신 곳에 이르렀습니다. 아브라함은 그 곳에 제단을 쌓고 장작을 벌여 놓은 다음, 자기 아들 이삭을 묶어 제단 장작 위에 올려 놓았습니다.

그 때에 여호와의 천사가 하늘에서부터 그를 불렀습니다. “아브라함아, 아브라함아!” 그러자 아브라함이 “예, 제가 여기에 있습니다”라고 대답했습니다. 천사가 말했습니다. “네 아들에게 손대지 마라. 아무 일도 그에게 하지 마라. 네가 하나밖에 없는 아들을 아낌없이 바치려 하는 것을 내가 보았으니, 네가 하나님을 두려워하는 줄을 이제 내가 알았노라.”

아브라함이 눈을 들어 살펴보니 나무에 뿔이 걸려 있는 숫양 한 마리가 보였습니다. 아브라함은 그 양을 잡아다가 자기 아들 대신에 하나님께 번제물로 드렸습니다. 이 일 때문에 아브라함은 그 곳의 이름을 여호와 이레라고 불렀습니다. 그래서 지금까지도 사람들은 ‘여호와의 산에서 준비될 것이다’라는 말을 합니다.

Genesis 22:1-14

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
