“무지개”, 영원한 언약의 표
God’s Covenant With Noah

여호와께서 노아에게 말씀하셨습니다. “너는 가족을 이끌고 배로 들어가거라. 내가 보기에 이 세대에는 너만이 내 앞에서 의로운 사람이다. 모든 깨끗한 짐승은 암컷과 수컷 일곱 마리씩, 깨끗하지 않은 짐승은 암컷과 수컷 한 마리씩 데리고 들어가거라. 하늘의 새도 암컷과 수컷 일곱 마리씩 데리고 들어가거라. 그래서 그들의 종자를 온 땅 위에 살아 남게 하여라.

지금부터 칠 일이 지나면, 내가 땅에 비를 내리겠다. 사십 일 동안, 밤낮으로 비를 내리겠다. 그리하여 내가 만든 생물을 땅 위에서 모두 쓸어 버리겠다.” 노아는 여호와께서 명령하신 대로 모든 일을 했습니다.

비가 사십 일 동안, 그치지 않고 내려 대홍수가 났습니다. 물이 불어나니, 배가 물 위로 떠 땅에서 떠올랐습니다. 땅 위에서 움직이던 생물이 다 죽었습니다. 새와 가축과 들짐승과 땅에서 기던 모든 것과 사람들이 다 죽었습니다. 육지에 있는 모든 것 가운데, 코로 숨을 쉬던 모든 생물이 다 죽었습니다. 물이 백오십 일 동안, 땅을 뒤덮고 있었습니다.

노아가 육백한 살 되던 해 첫째 달, 곧 첫째 날에 물이 땅에서 말랐습니다. 노아가 배의 지붕을 열고 보니, 땅이 말라 있었습니다. 하나님께서 노아에게 말씀하셨습니다. “너는 아내와 아들들과 며느리들을 데리고 배에서 나오너라. 너와 함께 머물고 있는 각종 생물 즉 새와 짐승과 땅 위에서 기는 모든 것도 배에서 이끌고 나오너라. 그것들이 땅 위에서 활동하며, 알을 까고 새끼를 많이 낳아 땅 위에서 번성할 것이다.

내가 너희와 함께 사는 모든 생물과 너희 사이에 대대로 세울 언약의 표는 이러하다. 내가 구름 사이에 내 무지개를 두었으니, 그것이 나와 땅 사이의 언약의 표이다. 내가 땅에 구름을 보내 구름 사이에 무지개가 나타나면, 나는 너희와 모든 생물 사이에 세운 나의 언약을 기억할 것이다. 다시는 홍수로 땅의 모든 생물을 멸망시키는 일은 없을 것이다. 구름 사이에 무지개가 나타나면, 내가 그것을 보고 나 하나님과 땅 위의 모든 육체를 가진 생물들 사이에 세운 영원한 언약을 기억할 것이다.”

God’s Covenant With Noah
Genesis 9:1-17

God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

"But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.

"Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind. As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it."

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."

And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."

So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth."
